MTS has launched a QR-code payment service for individuals in Peru and Bolivia. Users can now pay for goods and services at most retail locations, including large chains, hotels, and street markets, by scanning local national payment system codes through the My MTS application.
The service allows payments in Russian rubles using either a mobile account or a Russian bank card. Transactions are processed without commissions, with currency conversion occurring at the time of the operation. The maximum transaction limit is set at 770,000 ₽ for Peru and 250,000 ₽ for Bolivia.
Payments under 5,000 ₽ do not require SMS confirmation, enabling transactions even without cellular network coverage. MTS subscribers can make payments even with a negative balance, provided they have an internet connection. The app is accessible to users of any mobile operator.
This expansion into Latin America follows a significant increase in travel bookings to the region. The payment feature is part of a broader network covering approximately 15 countries, including Turkey, Egypt, Vietnam, and China, as MTS continues to scale its international financial services.
