MTS has deployed a new LTE base station near the village of Urozhaynoye on Sakhalin Island. The infrastructure provides mobile internet speeds of up to 60 Mbps along the Nevelsk-Shakhtersk airport highway. The project was implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Development of the Sakhalin Region.
The new network coverage supports the local salmon hatchery, enabling the use of IoT, environmental monitoring, and cloud-based video surveillance. Additionally, the infrastructure improves connectivity for tourists visiting archaeological sites near the Tatar Strait, located eight kilometers from Tomari.
Director of MTS in the Sakhalin Region, Shamil Chekmarev, stated that the company upgraded its network in the Anivsky, Dolinsky, Smirnykhovsky, Korsakovsky, and Tomarinsky districts over the last six months. Plans for 2026 include expanding LTE coverage to the Nevelsky, Kholmsky, Uglegorsky, Tymovsky, and Makarovsky districts.
