MTS has launched 5G network services in Nizhny Novgorod. The coverage extends to specific areas across seven districts, including Nizhegorodsky, Kanavinsky, Sovetsky, Moskovsky, Avtozavodsky, Leninsky, and Sormovsky. The network is available in both popular tourist spots and residential neighborhoods.
The infrastructure utilizes existing LTE 2100 MHz frequencies through technological neutrality. This approach allows the company to gradually increase network capacity and improve connection quality in areas with high subscriber density, as stated by the company representatives.
Acting Director of MTS in the Nizhny Novgorod region, Maxim Ledentsov, noted that this rollout is the initial phase of 5G development in the region. The company plans to expand coverage and network capacity over time, focusing on business applications such as automation and smart device integration.
On September 11, 2026, MTS also enabled access to a gigabit 5G network in the 4.9 GHz band. This network, which offers peak data speeds of 1.5 Gbit/s, is currently operational in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and Ufa, utilizing 46 former test zones.
