MTS has launched a 5G network in the Kirov region, utilizing existing LTE frequencies in the 2100 MHz band. The deployment follows the principle of technological neutrality, allowing the simultaneous use of a single frequency resource for both fourth and fifth-generation networks without requiring additional infrastructure construction.
The 5G service is now active in several urban areas of Kirov, including the Chistye Prudy district, the vicinity of Teatralnaya Square, the Assumption Cathedral, and residential complexes such as Metrograd. Additionally, coverage has been established in Vyatskiye Polyany, specifically near the city hospital and Pervomayskaya Street.
According to Alexey Kozin, director of MTS in the Kirov region, the implementation provides a 10–15% increase in data transfer speeds for subscribers without compromising LTE quality. The company plans to continue expanding coverage and eventually transition to gigabit networks in the 4.9 GHz band.
