MSI has released the Z890 GAMING PLUS WIFI6E motherboard, a simplified version of the previous Z890 GAMING PLUS WIFI model. The new board is priced at $199, compared to the $270 launch price of its predecessor, and is currently available in the Russian market for 27,700 rubles.
The motherboard is built on an ATX form factor with a 6-layer PCB and supports LGA1851 processors. It features a 14+1+1+1 power delivery system using 55A DrMOS AOZ5311 components and an 8-channel Richtek RT3638AJ PWM controller. The board includes four DIMM slots supporting up to 256 GB of DDR5 RAM with frequencies reaching 9.2 GHz.
Key differences from the original model include the removal of the 40 Gbps Thunderbolt USB Type-C port and the replacement of the Wi-Fi 7 Intel Killer BE1750x module with a Realtek RTL8852CE Wi-Fi 6E controller. The board retains the 5 Gbps Intel Killer E5000B wired network controller and the 7.1-channel Realtek ALC897 audio codec.
The board provides four M.2 slots, one of which supports PCIe 5.0 x4, and four SATA ports. It also includes a Nuvoton NCT6687D-R controller for managing up to seven fans and a liquid cooling pump. The product comes with a 36-month warranty and is manufactured in China.
