Morgan Stanley has become the first global systemically important bank to introduce a spot Bitcoin ETP. The product was launched in April and reached a valuation exceeding $600 million within several months of its debut.
Amy Oldenburg, Head of Digital Assets at Morgan Stanley, noted that the firm implemented a specific allocation framework for its clients. This strategy allows for a 0–4% allocation to Bitcoin, which is distributed across three distinct investor risk profiles.
The bank opted for a pricing strategy that positions its Bitcoin ETP below competing products currently available on the market. Oldenburg also discussed the firm's perspective on Bitcoin as digital gold and addressed the potential for holding the asset on the bank's balance sheet.
The discussion covered the broader institutional market structure, including the role of stablecoins and tokenization. The firm continues to focus on client education and the integration of crypto assets through its E-Trade platform.
