Moonshot AI released its Kimi K3 model on July 16, offering it as a free, downloadable AI tool. Within four days of the launch, the company suspended new subscriptions due to server capacity constraints. By September 11, the company introduced a smaller model, K2.8 Preview, which now handles some requests previously processed by K3.

Anthropic recently alleged that Moonshot AI redirected user queries to its Claude model, presenting the generated responses as its own. According to Anthropic, it identified nearly 300,000 such requests routed through 5,380 accounts over a 10-day period. These requests reportedly included footage from security cameras in Chengdu.

Following online rumors regarding the detention of its founder and employees, Moonshot AI issued a formal denial. The company characterized these claims as malicious slander and confirmed it has filed police reports to pursue legal action against those spreading the information. No official agency has confirmed any arrests or investigations.
