Beijing-based AI startup Moonshot is considering a dual-listing strategy on the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchanges. The company, which develops the Kimi K3 model, is currently valued at approximately $50 billion in an ongoing funding round. If successful, this move would position the three-year-old firm among the largest Chinese AI companies to enter public markets.

The company has reportedly discussed a Hong Kong IPO with its financial backers and is eyeing the Shanghai STAR Market for a potential secondary listing. According to recent reports, Moonshot has confidentially filed for a Hong Kong offering with a target to raise around $3 billion. Final details regarding the size and timing of the offering remain subject to regulatory approval and market conditions.

Founded in 2023 by researcher Yang Zhilin, Moonshot has rapidly scaled its operations. Its Kimi K3 model, released in July, features 2.8 trillion parameters. The startup is currently in discussions with Microsoft, Amazon, and Google regarding potential revenue-sharing agreements to host its models on their cloud platforms, signaling a shift toward global expansion.

The potential dual listing reflects a broader trend in the AI sector, where companies are moving from private funding to public markets to secure the massive capital required for model training and computing infrastructure. Other Chinese firms, such as Zhipu and MiniMax, have already pursued listings in Hong Kong this year, while international competitors like Anthropic are also preparing for public offerings.
