The Sprout Pi and Sprout Pico motherboard replacement kits for vintage iPods integrate modern features into legacy hardware. These boards add Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi, USB-C ports, and microSD card slots to older devices, while also enabling FLAC lossless audio playback.

The new firmware allows users to connect wired headphones via the USB-C port or the original 3.5mm jack. Bluetooth support extends to wireless devices, including AirPods. The Wi-Fi module enables Google Cast and Apple AirPlay functionality, alongside the ability to download podcasts directly.

The high-end Sprout Pi model supports streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music and can run additional applications. Compatibility is currently limited to the third and fourth-generation iPods and the iPod mini.

The project is scheduled to launch a crowdfunding campaign on the Crowd Supply platform. Pricing details for the replacement motherboards have not yet been disclosed by the developers.
