Mitsubishi is re-entering the US electric vehicle market with the 2027 Eclipse Sportback, which goes on sale this month. The vehicle starts at $37 745, with a total price of $39 740 after a $1 995 destination fee. An optional Technology Package is available for an additional $2 600.
The Eclipse Sportback is built on the same platform as the Nissan LEAF and features a 75 kWh liquid-cooled battery. It offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 282 miles. The vehicle supports DC fast charging up to 150 kW, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 35 minutes, and includes a native NACS port.
The interior features dual 14.3-inch digital displays, synthetic leather upholstery, and integration with Google Maps and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This launch is part of Mitsubishi's Momentum 2030 business plan, which aims to release at least one new or refreshed vehicle annually through fiscal 2030.
The pricing of the Eclipse Sportback is approximately $8 000 higher than the Nissan LEAF. It also faces competition from other models, such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 starting at $35 250, the Toyota bZ at $34 980, and the Kia EV3, which starts at $29 890 for the Light trim and $34 990 for the Wind trim.
