Researchers at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology have introduced ALPACA, a neural network algorithm designed to optimize 5G and 6G network performance. The system addresses the conflict between data transmission speed and connection reliability, focusing on minimizing latency in high-speed environments.
The Asymmetric Loss Prediction Algorithm for Channel Adaptation selects optimal data transmission modes by analyzing real-time channel characteristics. According to MIPT representative Kirill Glinsky, this approach overcomes limitations of existing methods, particularly in scenarios involving high user mobility.
The development coincides with the ongoing rollout of 5G infrastructure in Russia. In September, the Ministry of Digital Development announced the launch of fifth-generation networks across 16 cities, including Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, and Kazan.
The ministry plans to expand 5G coverage to an additional 50 cities by the end of the year. Officials also noted that 5G access for iPhone users remains contingent upon decisions made by Apple.
