Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is launching its third and largest round of grants for EV charging infrastructure. The program focuses on prioritizing fast-charging stations in Greater Minnesota to support long-distance travel.

The application process for round 3a is currently open, with a deadline of 2 November 2026. Applicants must provide technical requirements, site designs, layout, electrical diagrams, and certification documents.

Conditional awards will be announced between late December 2026 and January 2027. The funding structure for this round consists of 80 percent Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding and a 20 percent investment from each grantee.

MnDOT has previously released two rounds of funding totaling over $16 million. This supported the creation of 24 fast-charging sites on the I-94, I-35, and I-90 highways, eight of which are now operational.
