Mini USA has introduced the 1998 GT Edition, the sixth model in its Icon Drops series. The vehicle is based on the Cooper C 2 Door platform and features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 161 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The 1998 GT distinguishes itself with John Cooper Works suspension and braking components, prioritizing handling and stopping power over engine output. The car is available exclusively in Midnight Black Metallic and includes 17-inch black wheels, GT decals, and specific aerodynamic elements.

Pricing for the 1998 GT starts at $36 875, excluding a destination fee of $1 350. This price point is approximately $4 075 higher than that of the standard Cooper S. Pre-orders are currently open, with vehicle deliveries scheduled to begin this fall.

Mini has not specified a production limit for this edition, characterizing it only as a limited release. The 1998 GT follows the historical naming convention established by the original 1275 GT, which was produced between 1969 and 1980, and the 2020 Cooper 1499 GT.
