The official Microsoft account on X was compromised this week. Attackers used the account to post a message asking for likes to bring back the office assistant Clippy, which was originally part of Microsoft Office between 1997 and 2004.
The post was not a genuine request to revive the character but a tactic to promote a cryptocurrency token. Microsoft confirmed the unauthorized access, removed the posts, and stated that it does not endorse any cryptocurrency projects.
The company has regained control of the account and is currently investigating the incident. Microsoft advised users to rely solely on official sources for information regarding its brands, products, securities, and intellectual property.
