Microsoft is updating the PowerToys welcome screen with a new interactive animation called Warp. Product manager Niels Laute announced that the feature will run at 60 FPS, utilizing Windows Composition technology to ensure smooth visual performance and responsiveness.
The Warp animation replaces the static main image in the Out-of-Box Experience page. The sequence lasts approximately 2 seconds and features 35 tool icons flying in from a 3D perspective, accompanied by 70 neutral-colored stars. The logo then drops at a 2.6x scale, triggering light effects and the appearance of UI elements.
The full animation plays only during the initial launch of the welcome screen. Subsequent visits will trigger a simplified version lasting about 450 milliseconds. If the Windows animation effects setting is disabled, the interface will immediately display the final state without any motion.
