Microsoft is updating legacy Windows 11 components to include dark mode support, aiming to improve user experience without fully refactoring older tools. Recent updates have already introduced dark mode to file deletion and copy dialogs, as well as the classic Run dialog box.

The Hyper-V Manager, a long-standing tool that has seen minimal updates, is now receiving dark mode support. Microsoft has implemented this by adding dark mode appearances to the Win32 API for specific windows within the application, rather than rebuilding the interface with WinUI.

Currently, the dark mode is available for the New Virtual Machine, Export Virtual Machine, and Import Virtual Machine dialogs. However, the feature remains in development, and the main management interface and virtual machine list still retain their light-themed appearance.

The company notes that some interface details still require further optimization. This approach of adding dark mode to legacy components serves as a temporary measure while the broader transition to a unified design language continues across the operating system.
