Microsoft has scheduled an event for October 7 to discuss updates regarding Windows, Surface hardware, and the Nvidia RTX Spark platform. The company intends to showcase new features tailored for developers and content creators, focusing on local artificial intelligence and agent integration.
The Surface Laptop Ultra, unveiled in May, features an Nvidia RTX Spark processor and up to 128 GB of unified memory. It offers a peak AI performance of 1 PFLOPS for FP4 calculations with sparsity. While initially slated for an autumn release, pricing and specific availability dates remain undisclosed.
Software updates for Windows include secure execution environments for local AI agents, utilizing Nvidia OpenShell to manage access to system resources. Additionally, Microsoft has introduced Workload Profile Scheduling to optimize task distribution across the 20 cores of the RTX Spark chip and expanded memory allocation for large AI models.
The company is also refining the Prism emulator to support x86 and x64 applications on the RTX Spark Arm-based architecture. Furthermore, the event may provide new details on the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a compact workstation for developers announced in June, which is expected to launch in the US by the end of the year.
