Microsoft has introduced a new shortcut feature in the Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview Build 26340.9596. Users can now utilize the tilde character to navigate directly to their personal account folder within the file explorer.

By typing the tilde symbol, users can access subdirectories such as AppData without entering the full path, which typically requires the C drive and username. This syntax mirrors conventions found in Linux, WSL, and Git environments.

The new method serves as a shorter alternative to the existing environment variable USERPROFILE. It simplifies navigation across multiple accounts, as users no longer need to recall specific account names to reach their home directory.

The feature is currently restricted to the experimental preview build and has not yet been released to the stable version or public preview channels. It is expected to become a standard tool for developers and system administrators if it reaches the general release.
