Microsoft issued a 30-day countdown notification on October 9 for users of Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions. The company urges users to upgrade their systems as official support for these specific versions is nearing its end.
The Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise and Education editions were originally released on October 31, 2023. Under the current support policy, these versions receive 36 months of updates. In contrast, the Home and Pro editions of the same version had a 24-month support cycle, which concluded on November 11, 2025.
Once support terminates, devices running these versions will stop receiving monthly security updates, leaving them without protection against new threats. Microsoft recommends transitioning to Windows 11 26H2, which was released in September 2026 as an enablement package.
Support for the Windows 11 26H2 version is scheduled to continue until October 2029. The update is currently being rolled out in phases. Eligible devices with the 'Get the latest updates as soon as they are available' setting enabled will download and install the update automatically.
Users can manually check for the upgrade by navigating to Settings and then Windows Update. If the device meets the necessary requirements, the option to download and install Windows 11 version 26H2 will appear directly on the update page.
