Microsoft has announced that PCs running outdated versions of Windows 10 and 11 will lose access to security and feature updates by mid-2027. This is due to the expiration of digital certificates used to authenticate connections to the update service.

The certificates are set to expire on May 17 and June 19, 2027. Most systems have already received these updates automatically through standard monthly patches. The issue primarily affects devices that have not been updated for several months or are running unsupported versions of the OS.

For Windows 11 version 24H2, users must have installed the security update from September 2025 or later. For other supported versions of Windows 11 and 10, the required security update must be installed by June 19, 2027. Windows 10 Enterprise 2019 LTSC and Windows Server 2016/2019 have a deadline of May 17, 2027.

Users who have not received updates since October 2025 and are not enrolled in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program will lose access to the Windows Update service after June 19, 2027. Microsoft recommends checking the update history or manually downloading necessary packages via the Microsoft Update Catalog.
