Microsoft has issued a warning regarding the expiration of security certificates used for Windows Update. Two sets of these certificates are scheduled to expire on May 17 and June 19, 2027. Devices that do not receive the necessary updates or run unsupported operating systems will lose access to the update service after these dates.
For Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025, users must install security updates released in or after September 2025 by June 19, 2027. Other supported versions of Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows Server 2022 require updates released in or after July 2026 to be installed by the same June deadline.
Specific requirements apply to Windows 10 Enterprise 2019 LTSC, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016, which must have security updates from July 2026 or later installed by May 17, 2027. Devices running unsupported versions of Windows are advised to upgrade to a supported system to maintain connectivity.
Administrators can deploy the required updates via the Microsoft Update Catalog or existing management tools. Microsoft clarified that devices utilizing Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) are not affected by these changes. IT teams are encouraged to audit their infrastructure to prevent potential service interruptions.
