Microsoft confirmed that the September security update, identified as KB5124008, causes issues with Remote Desktop Services across Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows Server systems. The company updated its Windows Health Dashboard on September 11 to acknowledge the technical problems.
Users report that remote connections may disconnect after a few minutes, fail during login, or get stuck on the configuration screen. Additionally, system tools such as the Microsoft Management Console, RDS Licensing Diagnoser, and File Explorer may become unresponsive after the update.
The company stated that both client and server versions are affected by these malfunctions. As a temporary workaround, Microsoft recommends that users stop and restart the affected virtual machines to restore connectivity.
