Microsoft has acknowledged a technical issue affecting Windows 11 devices where the Administrator protection feature is enabled. Users who installed the October cumulative update may encounter failures when attempting to establish Remote Desktop connections.

The problem specifically impacts non-administrator users trying to connect to host devices with this security feature active. Affected systems typically display error code 0xC000000D, accompanied by a message stating that the token passed to the function is invalid.

The Administrator protection feature, introduced in Windows 11 24H2 and widely deployed in version 26H2, requires Windows Hello authentication for tasks needing administrative privileges. Because many corporate security policies have this feature enabled by default, the bug disrupts remote work and maintenance operations for numerous enterprise users.

Microsoft has officially marked the issue as mitigated and is currently developing a permanent fix. In the meantime, the company advises IT administrators to temporarily disable the Administrator protection feature via tools like Microsoft Intune or Group Policy to restore remote access functionality.
