Microsoft has delayed the release of a patch designed to address synchronization errors in the OneDrive desktop client. The issue occurs when file paths exceed the 520-character limit, affecting both standard Windows users and OneDrive for Business clients.
Currently, when users attempt to sync files exceeding this limit, the system displays an error message requesting that the path be shortened. Additionally, the NTFS file system may prevent users from renaming paths longer than 260 characters.
The upcoming fix aims to allow the sync client to continue running even when path limits are reached. It will provide a guided interface for renaming or moving files, highlighting specific segments that need adjustment and enabling renaming for paths longer than 260 characters.
Originally scheduled for a global rollout in early October, the update was first pushed to late October. Microsoft has now further postponed the deployment, with the new completion target set for the end of November.
