Microsoft has initiated testing for a redesigned Windows Search feature in Windows 11. The update is built on the WinUI 3 framework and aims to improve performance, memory usage, and overall speed. According to the company, the new interface features faster animations and a large preview pane for better navigation.
The updated search tool includes improved query understanding, with better support for synonyms and typos. It now displays results inline, similar to mobile search interfaces, allowing users to view file previews, such as photos or PowerPoint presentations, directly within the search window.
The new search functionality also acts as a launcher for system tasks. Users can toggle settings like Bluetooth or dark mode, minimize windows, or arrange apps side-by-side. Through Phone Link integration, the search bar can also execute actions on connected mobile devices, such as sending text messages.
The feature is currently available to Windows Insiders for testing. Microsoft plans to roll out the update to Windows 11 in the coming months. Future development will focus on integrating this search experience into the Start menu and ensuring it adapts to various taskbar positions and system configurations.
