Microsoft has updated the search function in Windows 11, transitioning it to the WinUI 3 framework. The company claims this shift improves performance and reduces memory consumption compared to the previous version.

The updated interface features a redesigned layout that removes the large preview panel on the right side. Internal data shows that users primarily interact with the results list on the left, prompting the removal of the additional pane.

New functionality allows users to execute system commands directly from the search window. This includes toggling the dark mode or enabling Bluetooth, tasks that previously required navigating through the system settings menu.

The new search experience is currently available to Windows Insider program participants. At this stage, the updated interface is accessible only via the taskbar, while the search function within the Start menu remains unchanged.
