On October 1, 2026, Microsoft officially denied any affiliation with a cryptocurrency token using its MSFT ticker and the Clippy character. The company stated it has not authorized the project and does not endorse it in any capacity.
The token, trading under the name CLIPPY, has been promoted via the X account ClippyMSFT. This account claimed the existence of liquidity pools valued at over $200,000, allegedly backed by actual Microsoft shares.
Microsoft clarified that holding these tokens provides no ownership rights or financial interest in the corporation. The company intends to pursue legal action to remove the token and its associated marketing materials.
The corporation emphasized that its official MSFT stock ticker is entirely separate from any digital assets using similar branding. Microsoft has a history of enforcing trademark rights regarding the unauthorized commercial use of the Clippy character.
