Microsoft has released the KB5126657 update for Windows 10 Extended Security Update (ESU) users, specifically for versions 22H2 and 21H2. Following the installation, the system build numbers are updated to 19045.7807 and 19044.7807 respectively.
The update introduces permanent daylight saving time for British Columbia and Alberta, Canada, effective November 2026. Additionally, it adds the Manitoba Standard Time zone (UTC-5:00). For ReFS file system volumes on external storage, Microsoft has implemented new auditing features and optional control policies, which currently only generate logs.
The patch addresses a bug where Storage Spaces Direct virtual disks remained offline after a reboot due to metadata misidentification. It also fixes a File History issue that caused backup and restore failures to external or network drives, which previously triggered incorrect 'reconnect drive' prompts.
Furthermore, the company continues to distribute new Secure Boot certificates to eligible devices in batches. While the rollout is ongoing, devices without the new certificate remain fully functional. The original certificates are scheduled to expire throughout 2026.
