Microsoft has expanded the compatibility of its Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) feature to include the Intel Panther Lake mobile platform. This technology, introduced in 2024, is designed to provide resolution upscaling for devices equipped with an NPU, regardless of the specific hardware architecture.
The Auto SR tool functions as a Windows-integrated solution for games that lack native support for Intel XeSS. While Microsoft recommends using native upscaling technologies when available, Auto SR serves as an alternative for titles that do not offer such built-in features.
Internal testing on the Intel Arc B390 GPU, integrated into Panther Lake SoCs, demonstrated performance gains. In Assassin's Creed Valhalla at 1600p resolution with High settings, the system achieved 45 FPS. With Auto SR enabled to upscale from 1050p to 1600p on Ultra settings, the frame rate rose to 52 FPS.
This adjustment resulted in a 15% performance increase while maintaining visual quality. Microsoft currently aims to ensure playable 60 FPS performance on supported hardware, with future iterations of the technology targeting a range of 90–120 FPS.
