Microsoft has officially released the Windows 11 26H2 update, also known as the Windows 11 2026 Update, for the majority of compatible hardware. The rollout, which began on September 29, 2026, covers devices running on both x86-64 and Arm architectures. The update is currently available for download through the Windows Update settings menu.

The new version is positioned as a minor release focused primarily on enhancing system stability and compatibility. It functions by enabling specific features that were previously present in earlier builds but remained inactive. Users can perform the upgrade from Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, as well as from Windows 10 systems currently enrolled in the Extended Security Update (ESU) program.

While standard support for Windows 10 concluded in 2025, Microsoft continues to offer free security updates for the Home edition through the ESU program until October 2027. The company maintains the policy of allowing free transitions to Windows 11 for eligible hardware. The update is being distributed in stages, and users are encouraged to check for availability via the system settings.
