Microsoft is testing a new list view for the Windows 11 taskbar, drawing inspiration from the interface design of Windows XP. This feature allows users to view and switch between open application windows through a text-based list rather than visual thumbnails.
The functionality is currently available in the Windows 11 Build 26340.9596 preview version. Users can trigger the list view by hovering their mouse cursor over an application icon on the taskbar. The interface displays the application icon alongside the specific window title.
The system retains the default thumbnail preview mode. Users can switch between the thumbnail and list modes within the Settings app by navigating to Personalization and then Taskbar. The feature is managed via a dropdown menu in the taskbar settings section.
