Microsoft has updated the Edge Add-ons store submission process by introducing automated verification checks. This change aims to reduce the review time for developers submitting extensions, as the volume of submissions has grown significantly.

The increase in submissions is attributed to AI-assisted programming and ambient programming, which have lowered the barrier to entry for extension development. This allows more developers to create and submit extensions in shorter timeframes.

To help users identify high-quality add-ons, Microsoft has modified the Featured badge mechanism. The badge is now automatically refreshed every 15 days based on an evaluation of 60 quality metrics.

The new system delegates repetitive verification tasks to automation while human reviewers focus on more complex cases. Microsoft states that the new process maintains existing security standards and the quality threshold for the Featured badge remains unchanged.
