Microsoft has implemented changes to its Microsoft 365 Family and Premium subscription plans, significantly altering the available cloud storage capacity. The company is reducing the total OneDrive storage pool provided under these tiers from the previous 6 TB to a new limit of 2 TB.

Previously, the subscription model allowed the primary account holder to share access with five additional family members. Under the old structure, each of the six users was allocated 1 TB of individual storage. The new policy shifts this to a collective pool of 2 TB shared among all six participants.

The company clarified that storage is no longer assigned on an individual basis. Consequently, the capacity available to any single user is now dependent on the usage of other family members. Large file uploads by one person will directly reduce the remaining space available to the rest of the group.

Despite the transition to a shared storage model, Microsoft confirmed that all personal files, photos, and documents remain private by default. Users who choose to purchase additional OneDrive capacity will see that extra space added to the common pool accessible by all members of the subscription.
