Microbiotica has secured €42 million in a Series C financing round. The investment was led by the British Business Bank, with participation from Tencent, IP Group, Cambridge Innovation Capital, Flerie Invest, and Seventure Partners. All existing Series B investors also contributed to this round.

The company intends to use the capital to advance its lead candidate, MB310, into Phase 2 clinical development for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. This follows positive results from the COMPOSER-1 Phase 1b study, which demonstrated clinical remission and improvements in intestinal barrier integrity.

Founded in 2016 as a spin-out from the Wellcome Sanger Institute, Microbiotica utilizes a genomics-driven platform that integrates a proprietary reference database with machine learning. The firm is also developing MB097, a precision microbiome asset targeting advanced melanoma.

The broader European biotech sector saw significant activity in 2026, with total reported funding reaching approximately €249.2 million across several companies. This includes investments in firms such as mbiomics, OutPost Bio, Bionyra Pharma, Generare, and Alchemab Therapeutics.
