Micro Center has introduced strict requirements for customers purchasing the Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics card. Buyers must now provide a government-issued photo ID, their full legal name, phone number, email address, and physical residential or business address. The retailer also demands disclosure of the specific installation location and the intended end use of the hardware.
The purchase process includes signing a mandatory no-export pledge. This document explicitly prohibits the purchaser from exporting, re-exporting, reselling, or transferring the GPU outside of the United States. Micro Center states that there are no exceptions to this policy, regardless of the destination country or the nature of the transaction.
These measures follow recent government efforts to curb the illegal export of high-performance computing hardware. Authorities have intensified scrutiny after reports of illicit shipments, including a case involving $2,5 billion worth of Nvidia equipment. While the effectiveness of the new forms remains unverified, they serve as a deterrent against unauthorized resale.
