Michael Dell has surpassed Jeff Bezos to become the third-richest person globally, with a net worth of $276.5 billion according to Forbes. This shift follows a record-breaking surge in Dell stock, which has risen approximately 350% by 2026.
The wealth gap between Michael Dell and Nvidia founder Jensen Huang is notable. While Huang holds a net worth of $189.1 billion, he owns only about 3% of Nvidia. In contrast, Michael Dell retains a 40% stake in his company, a result of his decision to take Dell private in 2013 with the support of Silver Lake.
Financial performance metrics show Nvidia earned $96.2 billion last quarter with a 75% margin, while Dell reported $47 billion in revenue with a 21% margin. Despite doubling its AI server sales, Dell faces scrutiny from analysts like James Fish at Piper Sandler regarding profit margins.
The current stock rally contrasts with the company's past. In 1988, Dell's growth created approximately 2,700 employee millionaires in Austin, known as Dellionaires. Today, the capital gains from the stock performance are concentrated primarily in the hands of Michael Dell.
