Metaplanet increased its Bitcoin holdings by 1,000 BTC during the third quarter of fiscal 2026, reaching a total of 44,000 BTC. The current value of these assets is estimated at $3.8 billion, securing the company's position as the second-largest corporate Bitcoin holder globally.
The net increase followed a series of transactions where the company sold 10,000 BTC and subsequently repurchased 11,000 BTC. Management stated that these separate actions were designed to demonstrate the liquidity of its treasury assets and the ability to convert Bitcoin into cash to meet financial obligations.
The proceeds from the 10,000 BTC sale exceeded the company's total outstanding principal on bonds and other interest-bearing liabilities. This move was intended to improve the perception of Metaplanet's creditworthiness among rating agencies and fixed-income investors.
The company aims to secure a formal credit rating to expand its access to capital markets, including bonds and preferred shares. Metaplanet continues to view Bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset and plans to grow its holdings over the long term.
Additionally, Metaplanet reported over $5 million in revenue from its Bitcoin Income Generation business during the third quarter. The firm retains the flexibility to monetize its holdings if such actions align with capital efficiency or long-term shareholder value.
