MetaMask has initiated a precautionary exit from its staking validators within the Lido protocol. The decision follows an internal security incident affecting a portion of the company's infrastructure. The firm is currently addressing the threat with the help of external security advisors and partners.

The company confirmed that there is no immediate threat to user wallets. The exit process involves validators linked to MetaMask's non-custodial staking operations. According to Lido, the process began on Wednesday and is scheduled to conclude by the end of October 7.

Lido Finance developer Will Shannon noted that the exit could result in lost rewards and potential downtime penalties. The ETH from these validators will return to the protocol gradually. The full cycle of exit, withdrawal, and re-entry is estimated to take up to 45 days.
