MetaMask is currently addressing a security incident involving its infrastructure. As a precautionary measure, the company has begun exiting its Ethereum validators from the Lido staking protocol. The developer confirmed that there is no immediate threat to individual MetaMask wallets, and remediation efforts are underway with external security partners.

Lido stated that the exit process for the affected validators is expected to conclude by October 7. The full withdrawal of staked assets back to the protocol is estimated to take up to 45 days due to the Ethereum network's entry queue. Lido emphasized that the arrangement is non-custodial and that holders of stETH do not need to take any action.

Independent on-chain analysis suggests that 19 MetaMask validators were involved in block rewards, with 18 payments routed to an address linked to Tornado Cash, totaling approximately 0.36 ETH. Reports indicate that around 17,000 validators, holding roughly 523,000 ETH valued at $1.4 billion, are being exited as a precaution.

Other industry participants have commented on the situation. Aave founder Stani Kulechov noted that the lending protocol is monitoring the event, with no impact reported on its markets. Ethena founder Guy Young stated that its USDe synthetic dollar has no direct exposure to stETH. The investigation into the infrastructure compromise remains ongoing.
