MetaMask has reported a security incident affecting a portion of its infrastructure. The company states that it has found no immediate threat to user wallets at this time and has not requested that users move funds or alter any account settings.
As a precautionary measure, MetaMask is shutting down its Ethereum staking validators, which were previously part of the Consensys Staking unit. The company is working with external security advisors and partners to resolve the issue internally.
Lido Finance confirmed that the affected validators are expected to cease operations by the end of October 7. The process of re-staking the Ethereum will occur gradually and is estimated to take approximately 45 days, with stETH holders retaining their tokens throughout the transition.
Lido noted that a reserve fund exceeding 6,750 stETH is available to mitigate potential disruptions. The company advised users that no action is required from stETH holders. MetaMask plans to release further details as its investigation progresses.
