Meta Platforms will present its new Project Phoenix AR headset at the upcoming Connect 2026 event. The device is described as a lightweight and compact alternative to the Meta Quest Pro, featuring a separate computing module to balance portability and performance.
The company plans to showcase its progress in photorealistic holographic avatars for video calls. These avatars, powered by neural networks, can replicate facial expressions and gestures in real time. Users will be able to generate their avatars using only a few smartphone photos.
During the event, Meta will demonstrate the Codec Avatars technology, featuring a real-time holographic projection of CTO Andrew Bosworth. This functionality is intended for integration into various video communication applications and the Horizon OS environment.
Reports also suggest that Meta may unveil a production version of its Luna smart glasses at the event. This specific model is expected to be camera-free to address potential privacy concerns among users and the public.
