Meta is developing a new virtual cinema environment called Theater Home for its Quest VR headsets. References to this feature were discovered in the public beta version of Horizon OS 2.9.
Security researcher ToastConcern successfully reconstructed the environment using the available code. Users can access the feature via a Theater button located in the window control bar.
The environment includes a Dynamic Ambience feature. This function renders a halo effect around the screen by matching the lighting to the colors displayed at the edges of the movie frame.
Meta is currently integrating various media and streaming platforms into Horizon OS. These efforts are part of preparations for the upcoming Meta VR Glasses release.
It remains unclear whether Theater Home will function as a private viewing space or as a social environment for multiple users to watch content together.
