Images of the Project Phoenix mixed-reality headset appeared in a Horizon OS firmware package. The device features a slim, glasses-like design with nose pads, side sensors, and removable prescription lenses. It weighs under 110 grams, as the primary computing hardware is housed in a separate tethered unit.
Meta previously tested several prototypes under codenames including Puffin, Loma, and Stanley. The current design reflects a strategic shift toward lightweight hardware, prioritizing comfort over the bulkier form factor of the traditional Quest line.
The device is categorized as a premium, open-periphery passthrough headset. It allows users to view digital content overlaid on the real world without being fully sealed off from their surroundings.
Meta Connect 2026, scheduled for September 23–24, is expected to feature a preview of the device. The market launch is now slated for the first half of 2027, following a delay from the initial 2026 target. Pricing and full technical specifications remain undisclosed.
