Meta has introduced Muse, a personal AI agent designed to perform tasks on behalf of users. The tool is available to users aged 18 and older in the United States via iOS, Android, and the muse.ai website. Access is provided through a free tier offering up to 100 million tokens per week, as well as paid plans at $20 and $100 per month.

The agent operates on a dedicated secure virtual machine called Muse Secure VM, which includes a separate Sentinel agent to approve outgoing internet traffic. According to Meta, Muse is the first agent integrated with Stripe's Link checkout system, providing purchase protections for transactions.

In a performance test conducted by PYMNTS, Muse failed to complete three basic consumer tasks: reordering toilet paper on Amazon, ordering pizza from Domino's, and booking a restaurant reservation on Resy. The failures were attributed to complex setup requirements, including separate authorization flows for Gmail and Calendar, and credential sharing via secure links.

Mark Zuckerberg has stated that Muse is intended to eventually pay for itself by helping users earn and save money. Meta plans to take a small commission from these transactions, though the reliability of the process remains a challenge.
