Software engineer Hank demonstrated a custom integration between the Meta Quest 3 headset and a Bambu Lab P2S 3D printer equipped with an AMS 2 system. The setup allows users to initiate 3D printing tasks by virtually throwing 3D models from the VR environment directly to the printer.
The technical implementation relies on a local web server running on a PC, which acts as a bridge between the Android-based VR application and the 3D printer. The developer utilized the Bambu Lab local API to enable this communication, facilitating direct control over the printing hardware.
The project was developed using OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra model. While the software is not currently available on GitHub, the creator indicated a willingness to share the code publicly after further refinement, provided there is sufficient interest from the community.
In addition to the 3D printing project, the developer used the same AI model to adapt a decompilation of Super Smash Bros Melee for the Meta Quest 3, incorporating VR controls. These experiments highlight ongoing efforts to bridge virtual reality interfaces with physical hardware and legacy software.
