Meta Platforms Inc. has launched Muse, a personal AI agent designed to automate digital tasks. The tool is available today in the U.S. on iOS, Android, and via the web at Muse.ai, with integration into WhatsApp. Support for Meta's AI glasses will be added soon.

The agent was developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, a unit established about a year ago to compete with Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Muse is capable of performing actions such as sending emails, booking flights and bus tickets, reserving restaurant tables, and selling cars on behalf of the user.

To handle payments, Muse uses Stripe's Link infrastructure, which issues single-use card numbers to prevent the agent from accessing the user's actual card details. Link also provides guaranteed no-fee returns for these transactions.

Security is managed through a Secure VM architecture that isolates the agent's activity in a virtual machine. A tool called Sentinel monitors all outgoing data, requiring user approval for any action that does not match an existing authorized policy.

Meta plans to introduce a 'Confidential VM' in a future update, which will use a trusted execution environment where users manage security keys locally. This will prevent any access to the VM, including by Meta itself.

The service is free to try, with a limit of 100 million tokens per week (one token equals four characters). Users who require extensive automation of various tasks will likely need a paid subscription.
