Meta has launched its AI agent, Muse, for the macOS platform. Unlike traditional chatbots that only generate text or answer queries, Muse is designed to perform tasks directly on the user's computer. It functions as a computer-use agent capable of interacting with the interface and various applications.
The agent can manage files, handle emails, update calendars, and fill out forms. Users provide a high-level goal, and Muse autonomously plans the necessary steps to execute the task across multiple applications. It observes the screen content to understand the workflow and context without requiring pre-written automation scripts.
Security remains a priority, with Meta implementing user-controlled authorization. Muse requires explicit permission before performing critical actions and allows users to pause or terminate tasks at any time. The system is restricted from automatically executing operations that involve financial, security, or privacy risks.
This release marks Meta's entry into the competitive field of autonomous AI agents, joining companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Microsoft. Muse is currently available to a select group of users, with future plans to integrate the agent across Meta’s broader ecosystem of products and services.
