Meta has released Muse for Mac, a personal AI agent designed to operate across various macOS applications. The tool integrates with files, mail, messages, calendar, and notes, allowing users to automate tasks like organizing folders, completing forms, or generating summaries from multiple sources. The application is currently available as a free download for users in the United States.
The agent functions asynchronously, enabling tasks to continue in the background even when the desktop window is closed. Users can maintain continuity across devices, including iOS, Android, the web, and WhatsApp, where the service originally launched on September 8th. Muse for Mac is built on the Muse Spark model, which also powers the Muse Code agent for macOS and Windows.
Security is managed through a cloud-based architecture called Muse Secure VM, which isolates user data. Meta requires explicit user permission for disk access and sensitive operations, such as deleting files or sending messages. While the current setup allows Meta to access data for service operations, the company plans to launch Muse Confidential VM later in 2026 to provide user-held encryption keys.
The system employs a separate Sentinel agent on the virtual machine to monitor and approve internet-bound actions. Meta has also implemented a public bug bounty program for the platform. The release was announced by Mark Zuckerberg and Meta’s Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, highlighting the company's rapid development cycle for its agentic AI tools.
