Meta has allocated $130 to 145 billion for AI capital expenditures in 2026. The launch of the Muse AI agent on September 8 serves as a tangible result of these investments, aimed at diversifying the company's revenue beyond advertising through a new subscription model.

The AI agent is powered by the Muse Spark model family, developed under Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang. To ensure data security, each instance runs within a dedicated virtual machine called Muse Secure VM, which requires user approval for sensitive actions.

Muse is currently available in the US via a dedicated app and the muse.ai web portal. The agent can manage travel bookings, send emails, and track long-term goals by integrating with services such as Apple Health, OpenTable, Spotify, and Google Workspace.

Meta is planning future integration of Muse with its AI glasses. The company faces competition from OpenAI, Google, as well as newer players like Instinct and OpenClaw in the AI agent market.
