Meta has implemented a ban on ByteDance, preventing the company from running advertisements or paid marketing campaigns on Meta platforms. This policy took effect on October 8, 2024, across seven specific countries: the United States, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Company spokesperson Chris Sgro stated that Meta does not intend to provide promotional services to a competitor that seeks to divert users away from its own applications. According to the company, refusing to support a rival's marketing efforts is a standard business practice across various industries.
The restrictions extend beyond ByteDance's direct advertising efforts. The ban also applies to third-party advertisers who attempt to run campaigns related to TikTok or other assets owned by ByteDance within the seven affected markets.
